Multimethodology:
The Theory and Practice of Combining Management Science Methodologies
edited
by Professor John Mingers, Warwick Business School and Anthony
Gill, Phrontis Limited
Published by John Wiley & Sons Limited.
In
recent years the number of methods, techniques and methodologies
within the broad field of OR and systems has burgeoned. There
is now an enormous variety of approaches, all having very diverse
characteristics and often underlying theories and philosophies.
In practice, individuals tend to use only a small number, often
only one. The editors argue that the complexity of the world
faced by managers actually necessitates the combination of different
methodologies, both hard and soft, within a single intervention.
This book explores the design of such multimethodologies in both
theory and practice.
• real examples of combining approaches such as SSM, cognitive mapping,
systems dynamics and strategic choice.
• exploration of a range of theoretical and philosophical underpinnings
• contributions from key academics and practitioners in the field of systems
and OR which discuss each of the methods and address the theoretical and practical
issues of using multimethodology.
